How to Style a Silk Kimono Year Round

Do You know that Silk is a fabric that breathes when it is warm and holds warmth when it is cool?

Let the Print Do the Work

A Year-round  piece, the "kimono, (with a small k and not to be confused with the Japanese Kimono, which  is the traditional dress for women in the wonderful country (Japan)  where I went to school and spent a few years..)
Simple wardrobe  combinations that make a statement:

•    A white fitted T-shirt, slim trousers, and a boldly printed silk kimono worn open
•    A sleeveless midi dress underneath a kimono with a botanical or bird motif
•    Tapered jeans, a neutral tank, and a kimono belted loosely at the waist
The kimono works as a lightweight alternative to a blazer/jacket. It adds polish without adding weight.
One note on accessories: silk this fine deserves metal that matches its quality. Sterling silver or gold vermeil belt buckles can add a  touch of sophistication...

Caring for Your Silk Kimono

Silk is a natural fiber so:

  • Store it flat or on a padded hanger, never a wire one
  • Keep it away from direct sunlight when not in use, as silk can fade
  • Hand wash in cool water with a mild detergent, or dry clean if the print is particularly fine
  • Press on a low heat setting with a pressing cloth between the iron and the fabric
  • Air dry flat rather than in a machine dryer

Finding the Right Kimono for Your Wardrobe.

Diolun Designs and Cynthia Dillon approach every piece as something imagined, created, and crafted with love. That philosophy shows in the fabric and the finish. A kimono made that way does not need a season to justify its place in your wardrobe. It earns it every time you wear it.
